Chapter 18Verse 61
Moksha Sanyasa Yoga
ईश्वरः सर्वभूतानां हृद्देशेऽर्जुन तिष्ठति। भ्रामयन्सर्वभूतानि यन्त्रारूढानि मायया॥
īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe 'rjuna tiṣṭhati, bhrāmayan sarva-bhūtāni yantrārūḍhāni māyayā
Translation
The Lord dwells in the heart of every being, Arjuna, turning them all by his power, as if they were mounted on a machine.
The moment
Near the end, Krishna has just warned Arjuna that his own nature will drive him to fight even if he refuses. This verse explains where that driving force finally comes from.
What it means
Krishna says the divine lives in every heart and moves all beings through its power, as if they were riding on a machine that turns them.
Going deeper
The machine image, 'yantra', isn't meant to make people sound like robots. It describes how much of what we do comes from nature, habit and causes we didn't choose.
The next verse gives the response: take refuge in that inner Lord with your whole being. If something deeper is already turning the wheel, trust is wiser than resistance.
In your life
Notice one pattern you keep repeating even though you've decided not to. Rather than fighting it by willpower alone, ask what deeper need is driving it. Working with that need tends to go further than wrestling the wheel.
The divine lives in every heart, quietly turning the wheel of the world.
