Chapter 9Verse 34

Raja Vidya Raja Guhya Yoga

मन्मना भव मद्भक्तो मद्याजी मां नमस्कुरु। मामेवैष्यसि युक्त्वैवमात्मानं मत्परायणः॥

man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru, mām evaiṣyasi yuktvaivam ātmānaṁ mat-parāyaṇaḥ

Translation

Fix your mind on me, be devoted to me, offer to me and bow to me. Joining yourself to me this way, with me as your goal, you will come to me.

The moment

This is the last verse of chapter nine, which Krishna calls the royal secret. After explaining how close he is to everyone who turns to him, he sums up the whole path.

What it means

Krishna gives four simple instructions: think of me, love me, offer to me and bow to me. Living that way, you'll reach him.

Going deeper

This verse comes back almost word for word near the very end of the Gita, as 18.65. Krishna repeats it because it's the simplest form of everything he teaches.

None of the four steps needs special skill or learning. Thinking, loving, offering and bowing are open to anyone, which fits chapter nine's theme that this path is easy to follow.

In your life

Choose one small daily act for each of the four: a moment of remembering, something done with love, something offered, a moment of bowing your head. Keep each one tiny and do them every day for a week.

Take this with you

Fix your mind on the divine, love it, and you will arrive.
